House of Lords circa 1950

I purchased this seductive 1950s lipstick red silky nylon chiffon cocktail party dress with a micropleated overlay, criss-crossed satin trimmed nipped at the waist and elegant full skirt from ETSY along with this amazing pair of vintage gloves and purse. Though I didn’t pair the dress with my satin Isabel Toledo’s (from Payless mind you ;o), I went ahead and made the look a reality for the Made-By event at the House of Lords in London.

Is it just me or does Williamsburg erode your wardrobe down to geek chic?
Let’s start from toe to head because head to toe is so overdone. Shoes: Charmone (vegan heels for anyone who doesn’t eat things with a face); Rag & Bone skinnies; Elle McPherson bralette; Mary Meyer shirt; Lara Miller organic cotton-hemp silk blazer; and A Peace Treaty handwoven scarf. sweet.

OMG that LBD again: BYT NYC Style Challenge

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4113/4841410708_2ef1ed3a89_b.jpg

Designer of that infamous little black dress for The Uniform Project, Eliza Starbuck is at it once again with the You Bright Young Things Style Challenge. She decided it was time for a number of us New Yorkers to go womano-a-womano with our own little LBD styles. The nine of us sashayed ourselves down to Cobblestones consignment & vintage shop for some additional accoutrements. See what we came up with at the BYT blog and vote for your favorite style challenger on Facebook

The BYT NYC Style Challengers

One of my personal looks: A vintage diamond cotton dress, the LBD, vintage hat with flower, my a.d. schwarz African blackwood cuff, and one of my own vintage belts that I picked up at Fluke in Brooklyn (another great little vintage boutique).

Bird is the word

One of my favorite Australian designers, Rachel from Bird, has just re-launched her website and it’s a spitting image of their cozy little storefront. If you’ve read through the pages of Style, Naturally, you would have immediately recognized her signature prints. Promise me that if you’re in Australia, you’ll take a beeline Bird-style to Surry Hills. Even if you are not in the shopping mood, you’ll at least stare in wide-eyed wonder of the store’s magical landscape of whimsical hand-printed organic cotton clothes, linens, notions and other novelties. When I was there back in June of last year I was certain a Beatrix Potter character would have nosed its way through the store - or some nymph or naiad would stretch its tiny limbs on one of the many printed notecards. Bird is definitely more than a store - it’s a state of mind that will let your flights of fancy soar.
